US Geologic Survey studies Great Lakes water budget

A massive federal study of water use in the Great Lakes Basin points to a looming problem with aquifers that, although far below the surface, are critical sources of water for many communities in Southeastern Wisconsin. These aquifers have fallen hundreds of feet, the study found, in the Milwaukee area and even further in Northeastern Illinois, where deep wells in Chicago suburbs deplete even the water table in this state.  Read the findings at the USGS site.
