NAWCA Grant Funded for SE Wisconsin

Ducks Unlimited,  a partner with WDNR, the Friends and others has been awarded a $1M NAWCA grant.  Some of these funds are intended for restoration and purchases in the Mukwonago River watershed. We are hoping this project will continue to move forward. Kudos to Ducks Unlimited for managing these grants. Mukwonago River Biotic Fish Survey

The Mukwonago IBI summary completed annually by John Lyons shows the Mukwonago River fishery over several years.  Great report. Fish catches were above average in 2011. Invasives upset the ecological balance

Invasive plants threaten the ecology of our natural areas.  We know they are not good and keep out good native plants but they also disrupt the ecology of areas for other plants.  Discover, remove, replace with natives to restore balance. Many sites to learn what plants are harmful, some located in our Sites We Appreciate.

Project RED Training Opens New Volunteer Opportunities

We held a training and paddle at the Nature Conservancy Lulu Lake Preserve last week. The attendees learned about some new invasives on the horizon  that we want to become aware of before they become out of control.  We intend to search for and identify any of these emergent species in the Mukwonago Rive watershed.
